In 2005 Paul Pauwels left Periscope Productions NV to become
programme manager at the Flemish Public Broadcaster VRT/CANVAS.
There he was in charge of the science and history department,
and responsible for the relations with the independent producers
In December 2006 Paul Pauwels left the broadcaster to become
project manager of the initiative that has led to the creation
of the "european television and media management academy"
(etma), a new international training institute that was launched
in April 2009 and of which Paul is now the director.
During his active time as a producer, Paul Pauwels has been
considered to be an expert on matters of European documentary
co-production and offered his knowledge as a tutor and an
expert for several organisations. Amongst them: Discovery
Campus (Germany), the European Documentary Network (Denmark)
and Greenhouse (Israel), Documentary in Europe (Italy).
Paul has been giving lectures and managing workshops on documentary
development and production in Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark,
Finland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Ireland,
France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic; Greece, India,
Israel and Macedonia.
Paul Pauwels has also been moderating pitching sessions all
over Europe, including the renowned Forum in Amsterdam.
A strong believer in sharing information, Paul has been the
chairperson of the European Documentary Network (EDN) for
the maximum period allowed by the statutes. During this period
he helped develop documentary associations in several European

Film Fund (VAF) for whom he also acts as an expert reader
for documentary projects.
He is teaching at the KHLim University in Genk, Belgium.
Paul Pauwels is living both in France and Belgium.
Paul is married to Liliane Vranken, and has one daughter,
who's living in the UK.
