Personal Change Objectives Based upon pre-course assignment, sharing of change initiatives and personal aspirations for better leading change.
Day 1
Becoming an Outcomes -
Focused Organization
We use the word and concept a lot in educational organizations
and community-based collaborations. What does “outcomes” really mean? And, how do get others on-board with this approach to leading and working? What are the attributes of high-performing organizations and top employer environments?
Negotiating Exercise As the saying goes, “You don’t get what you deserve, you get what
you negotiate!” High Performance, Outcomes and Team effectiveness is always multiple exercises of dialogue, trade-offs and negotiation. So, let’s see what you can do in a negotiation simulation! How do YOU “play to win”?
High Performing Teams Difference between Individuals, Groups & Teams
Motivations, rewards, leadership
(Interactive discussion, action challenge with ‘fishbowl’ observation & feedback, Summary discussion & application)
Outdoor Team Challenge Using the wonderful outdoor setting of Banff, participant teams
will see if they can put into practice the concepts of high performing teams – and how well you eat for dinner will depend on it! Then we’ll debrief over dessert and campfire.
Day 2
Leading Complex Change Building upon the personal Change Curve this session then takes Change to the Department level and how senior leaders can successfully lead change in a complex environment. We utilize the “Leading Change” (Kotter) Book Summary as a backbone for
this session.
Change Projects Pre-course Change Projects are developed further in consultation with peers and expert resources.
Communications Refreshed SBO’s are often called upon to make compelling presentations.
Refreshed This session reviews fundamentals of excellent communications and creates a framework for impromptu and formal presentations to Board, senior management colleagues, staff,  public, government and more.
Day 3
Accountability Responsibility & Accountability flow in various org. structures
How to set-up and execute accountability dialogues with staff and important partners. Hands-on practice.
Integration of Pre-/Post session mentoring/coaching initiative.
Empowerment, Delegation Directing Interactive discussion, review of key models
Application in the school board environment.
Application to specific participant situations & Role Plays.
Outcomes Measures/
Balanced Scorecard
Accountability is a 'headline' concept these days for managers, especially as it relates to implementation of strategy. We expect results, but we have to delegate and empower. In return, how do we ensure accountability?
The Balanced Scorecard and a straight-forward Performance Management mechanism can accomplish this.
Project Management
& Decision-Making
Decision-making criteria and processes, different kinds of project management decision-making and challenges
Strategic Decision, Departmental Decisions, Team & Interpersonal Decisions. 7-Step Planning & Problem Solving Model and/or use of such elements as:
  • Pareto Analysis
  • Matrix or Grid Analysis
  • Decision Trees
  • Force Field Analysis
  • Six Thinking Hats
  • Cost - Benefit, Pros - Cons Analysis
  • Fish Bone Diagramming
  • Probability and statistical trend analysis
Change Leadership Projects Continued planning, with personal consultation access to faculty and guest resources.
Day 4
Performance Management & Measurement Connecting Team goals and Accountability into tangible management & measurement mechanisms using the Balanced Scorecard approach. Connecting Governance-level strategy through to front-line action with reliable reporting and transparency. Can this “holy grail” be achieved in school boards?!
Personal Change Leadership Projects Participants will present their plan for implementing a new change or Strategic initiative in their organization. Presentations will be made either to:
  • Facilitators/course colleagues, or
  • A panel of Guest Executives
Re-entry Planning Session review of content and provision of time & structures/processes for participant to create an action plan for implementing/measuring impact of their learning from the Session.
