Dean graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and articled with Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). After receiving his Chartered Accountant designation, he spent two years with the Provincial Auditor’s Office.

Dean spent 13 years with the City of Regina and held a variety of positions including the City Auditor General. During this time with the City, he obtained extensive experience in comprehensive auditing, corporate policy, strategic planning and financial reporting.

As the Assistant Superintendent – Treasurer of Edmonton Public Schools, Dean is a member of the Superintendent’s Executive Team. He had gained extensive experience in financial reporting, long-term planning, treasury management, budgeting and many other important programs in the District.

Dean has volunteered for many activities, most notably as Chairman of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants Study Group on Financial Reporting by Canadian School Boards. He has also served on many other committees and task forces, which covered topics such as the Funding Framework for School Boards in Alberta, financial monitoring and accountability for school boards, financial training for school trustees and superintendents and financial reporting.
